Hello, we have a few questions about the specific rules for the dumpsters.
It says in the game manual that “recommended dimensions for the Dumpsters are in the realm of 4” tall x 7” wide x 15” long”. Is there any strict limits for size and dimensions.
It also does not define what contact with the ramp for the dumpsters means.
If part of the dumpster is under the open part of the ramp, does this count as contact?
Does the dumpster have to be in the same orientation as in the field onshape files with the short end contacting the ramp, or can the longer side of the dumpster be contacting the ramp?
Does the dumpster have to contact the high end of the ramp, or can it be placed on the sides, or on top of the ramp for contact?
If for example a zip tie connected to the dumpster is contacting the ramp, does this also count as contact?
Good questions - There are not any strict limits for size and dimensions for the Dumpsters as stated in the 4.2 – Game Specific Definitions, but your questions warrant some additional clarity for what “…the Dumpster Design to align properly with the ramp” really means. So to answer your specific scenarios:
We will clarify the 5.1 Mission 2 Scoring to read at the beginning: “To receive 2+ Extra Points”, the AVR Drone Dumpster must contact the back of the Ramp (AVR Drone taxing is allowed).
Contact for the back of the Ramp can be contacting either of the side ends of the Ramp or contacting some part of the Ramp under the open part of the back of the Ramp.
The anticipated orientation of the Dumpster is for the short end to contact the end of the Ramp, but there is no restriction for a Dumpster to be located in any orientation to contact the end of the Ramp.
The Dumpster has to contact the high end of the Ramp to receive the 2+ Extra Points.
The contact of the Dumpster to the Ramp needs to be a structural portion of the Dumpster, meaning that anything like a zip tie or an antenna etc. would not be considered “contact”.
I would just like to make fully clear what is meant by there are no strict limits for size and dimensions, does this mean that we could make a 3” by 3” by 3” dumpster, or a 18” by 18” by 18” dumpster?
You are correct that there are not any limits for the dimensions of the Dumpster, but Teams need to consider how the size of the Dumpster can be delivered to the ramp. 5.3.4 Dumpster Delivery Rules states: c. Once the AVR Drone has landed the Dumpster at the back of a Ramp, the AVR Drone pilot is allowed for Taxiing the Drone to move the Dumpster to push up against the Ramp. To clarify further, if the AVR Drone is going to taxi the Dumpster after it has landed at the Ramp, the Dumpster has to stay connected to the Drone if the Dumpster is going to be taxied to contact the Ramp.
Your question about limitations, 4.2 (page 15) states: “Custom design features to connect and disconnect the Dumpsters to the AVR Drone are open ended. The core structure should consider the dimensions stated above, but the additions of mechanisms, hooks, magnets, vacuums, etc. which are attached to the core structure on the AVR Drone or the Dumpster are allowed. “ The dumpster cannot be pushed by the RVR. As stated above: “……the Dumpster has to stay connected to the Drone if the Dumpster is going to be taxied to contact the Ramp”
