Hello,

During our tests for the DEXI, we found that the drone has to be exactly on top of the IR sensor in order to detect it, and if it is even a few inches away (which it most likely will be farther when we are flying) it has to be incredibly precise to detect the IR beam. Will the emitter on the course have some sort of way to make the beam wider, or will it be this small section for us to detect?

For other teams, has anyone found a way to detect the IR beam more reliably?

Last week I had the chance to fly on a demo field that Rohn put together. It was somewhat challenging to hover over the beam, but I was able to make it work. One thing I decided to do for testing purposes was to move the IR sensor up to the front of DEXI to make it easier to detect. That way I also have the emitter in camera view:

Right now I have a little hot glue holding it into place but will be working on a 3D printable mount.

Here is a test flight at 2-3’ AGL:

Not sure if this helps, but wanted to share my current setup.
